Local Food Guide

Downtown Elgin Farmers Market
Shared Harvest looks forward to seeing you at our local farmers market on Fridays between June and mid-October. In addition to freshly grown fruits and vegetables, plants/flowers, meat, eggs and dairy, visitors may also find special locally-produced foods, baked goods, body care, canned goods/spreads/honey, beverages, sweets, spices, handmade items, art and more. Learn more at  https://www.downtownelgin.com/farmersmarket

LocalHarvest National Directory
The LocalHarvest National Directory is a grassroots, online directory of over 40,000 family farms and farmers markets, along with restaurants and grocery stores that feature local food nationwide. Search for area farms, farmers markets, CSAs, U-pick, farm stands and more. The directory is grassroots in that individual producers maintain their LocalHarvest listing. Shared Harvest of Elgin is not responsible for the accuracy of the directory’s information, and encourages community members to seek out and support local and organic producers. Learn more at https://www.localharvest.org

Farmers seeking to be added to the LocalHarvest directory should visit https://www.localharvest.org/about.jsp

Elgin Local Food Guide 2020
The objectives of Shared Harvest, in addition to opening our own community-owned grocery store, have been to educate our community about the importance of local foods and the local food system to our health and to the sustainability of the region. Additionally, we strive to make local foods available to everyone in our community and thereby support local farms and farmers. The following guide, though a snapshot in time, gives you more access to the important local food scene in the Fox Valley Region

What Our SHAREHOLDERS Are Saying

"We purchased our first share because we enjoy eating healthy and supporting local businesses. Shared Harvest is a great opportunity to do both of these while getting involved with our local community." -Dan & Sheila W.

"....After a lot of mulling, I convinced myself to take the next step in buying a share. I feel like this is empowering us to be a part of the local food movement." -Jen B.

"My husband, Miles, and I joined to co-op because we wanted to support local farmers and help Elgin grow."
-Bridget P.

“Having grown up in the tropics, I can really appreciate freshly grown fruits & vegetables. The flavor doesn’t even compare. Supporting other local businesses and farms, it’s just a bonus too good to pass up.” -Edgar S.
